Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently abled (RMSD) is a free residential school for visually challenged girls. The school is recognized by the Child Centric Project of the Government of Karnataka and has residence facilities for 100 students.
Established in 1988, RMSD is a Kannada medium school for classes 1 to 10 (SSLC) under Karnataka State syllabus. Most of the students are from rural background. Parent counseling and house to house visits to bring about awareness on the importance of educating visually challenged girls is a regular feature of the RMSD support staff.
In addition to the academic curriculum, Mobility Training is an important aspect of education in this school. The students are given life-skills training, and they also have music, dance and basic cooking lessons. The aim of the school is to groom visually challenged girls to overcome total dependency and live confidently, leading to better opportunities in life.
The school has dedicated teachers and RMSD facilities include well equipped student friendly classrooms, computer lab, braille & audio library. The students regularly participate and win prizes at inter-school sports, music and quiz competitions.
A point to mention here with pride is that many students of RMSD have pursued higher education in regular colleges and are placed comparatively well in life. The alumni continue to keep in touch with their alma mater with the assurance that NR Foundation will stretch out a helping hand to them, whenever required.
